In this series, Crase adopts an animist perspective, viewing a river in the Meanjin/Brisbane hinterland as a living entity with its own consciousness and perception of its environment. Crase converted a droplet of water from Cedar Creek, into an aqueous lens capable of microscopic observation by employing a technique presented by Anastasia Tyurina and Everardo Reyes at the 2024 International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA). The lens of river water was used to view and image the riparian habitat from the river’s point of view. This transformation in perspective disrupts the human scale of vision and invites contemplation of non-human perspectives. Would the river perceive its surroundings as a sweeping blur or in microscopic detail?
